Marketing with Christopher Newman

Meet Christopher Newman, Associate Professor of Marketing for the UM Business School and an alumnus of the university, who is teaching a course he recently created: MKTG 371 Social and Digital Marketing Metrics. In this class, students couple what they already know about social and digital media and gain new knowledge about how marketers use that information on the business side.

This gives them more comprehensive knowledge of an area that is in great demand in the marketplace now. Students also complete several industry-recognized certifications by the end of the course that they can put on their resumes and highlight in job interviews (e.g., Google Analytics and Hootsuite Platform Training Certifications).

He also teaches MKTG 361: Introduction to Retailing. In this class, he teaches students the basics of starting their own retail business from site selection to merchandise buying to customer relationship management and everything in between. He incorporates his real-world experience into this course having recently started a women’s boutique called Style Assembly on the Square in Oxford with his wife, Kate.

Newman received a B.B.A in Marketing from the University of Mississippi; a M.S. in Marketing from the University of Alabama, and a Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Arkansas.

He has provided expert insight on a variety of marketing topics for Forbes, USA Today and other press outlets. His primary research interests are consumer health, food labeling and retailing.

“I love teaching marketing at Ole Miss – especially since I graduated with a marketing degree, myself,” said Professor Newman. “I get to help students prepare for their careers, while giving back to my alma mater at the same time.”
