Tim Overton is an Instructional Assistant Professor of Marketing with the University of Mississippi. Mr. Overton has been teaching with Ole Miss since 2017 with primary teaching responsibilities through the regional campuses of Tupelo, Booneville, Grenada, and Southaven. Prior to working with Ole Miss, Mr. Overton spent 25 years in private industry working in his family industrial chemical business. These years of experience provided valuable real-world application that Mr. Overton uses within his classroom. This practical expertise provides insight into not only the theory of work, but applied experience seeing theory in action. Mr. Overton has worked in various fields throughout his career including direct hands-on manufacturing, chemical laboratory technician, regulatory expert in OSHA, DOT, and EPA, direct sales agent handling multi-million-dollar accounts, financial analysis of operations, quality culture expert, as well as executive level leadership and strategic planning and decision-making. In addition to the family business, Mr. Overton has worked as a quality auditor of the Mississippi Quality Awards using the Malcolm Baldrige Criteria, trained in all aspects of ISO 9001 along with experience working directly with and applying the Toyota Production System (aka, Lean Manufacturing) and Six Sigma methodologies. His research interests include Lean Manufacturing, Lean Six Sigma, simulation, use of analytics in analysis and decision making, and Servant Leadership especially as it applies to a Lean environment. Mr. Overton is a graduate of Ole Miss with a B.B,A, and MBA along with a M.S. in Operations Management from the University of Alabama.
