Atlanta Career Trek

Students and staff from the Ole Miss Business School took a Career Trek to Atlanta from February 21 to 23. This excursion provided students with the opportunity to engage with companies and potential employers in the area.

Accompanied by members of the business school’s Career Prep, Business Connect, and development teams, twenty-nine students were chosen based on the merit of their resumes and applications, which highlighted academic achievements and extracurricular involvement.

The primary objective of the trek was to offer students an insider’s perspective on industry trends, corporate culture, and the hiring needs of various employers.

During the trek, students visited prominent companies in Atlanta such as Northwestern Mutual, Cisco, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, and Chick-Fil-A. Students were exposed to a variety of career and internship opportunities across different majors including finance, professional sales and marketing, management information systems (MIS), and management.

“The Atlanta Career Trek was definitely a life changing experience. It gave me a new perspective into the corporate landscape of large organizations and how much has changed in the traditional 9-5 work culture,” said Devin Fortenberry, a junior from Pascagoula, Mississippi majoring in Finance. “The networking opportunities were tremendous. It made me realize how quickly your career can take off with only one phone call.”

In addition to Atlanta, the Career Trek program has made previous visits to Dallas/Ft. Worth and the MS Gulf Coast. The team hopes to visit other popular markets in the U.S. where Ole Miss students are interested in living and working after graduation for future career treks.
