Business School Advising FAQs
A general elective is any 3-hour graded course that doesn't already fulfill a specific requirement in your major or general education core. It gives you the flexibility to explore interests outside of your main field of study while still earning credit toward graduation.
To count as a general elective, the course must:
- Be 3 credit hours
- Be a course you have not already taken
- Be 1000–5999 (100–599) level, and you must meet any prerequisites
Examples of courses that could count as general electives:
- AERO 1010 (ART 101): Two-Dimensional Design
- ISOM 2010 (GST 201): Introduction to Gender Studies
- MUSC 1030 (MUS 103): Introduction to Music
- PSYC 2001 (PSY 201): Introduction to Psychology
- SOCY 1010 (SOC 101): Introductory Sociology
- THEA 2010 (201): Appreciation of the Theatre
