A general elective is any 3-hour graded course that doesn't already fulfill a specific requirement in your major or general education core. It gives you the flexibility to explore interests outside of your main field of study while still earning credit toward graduation.
To count as a general elective, the course must:
- Be 3 credit hours
- Be a course you have not already taken
- Be 100–599 level, and you must meet any prerequisites
Examples of courses that could count as general electives:
- ART 101: Two-Dimensional Design
- GST 201: Introduction to Gender Studies
- MUS 103: Introduction to Music
- PSY 201: Introduction to Psychology
- SOC 101: Introductory Sociology
- THEA 201: Appreciation of the Theatre
The Pre-Advising Form is a tool created specifically for business students to save time, engage students in their degree programs, and allow interaction with academic advisors electronically.
In addition to getting the advisor hold lifted, completing the Pre-Advising Form will allow students the opportunity to schedule an appointment and meet face-to-face with an academic advisor during peak advising times.
All business students, sophomores through seniors, can use the Pre-Advising Form except those students who are on academic suspension or dismissal.
Once submitted, you will receive an automated email to your Ole Miss email account showing what classes were submitted.
You will receive an email once your submission has been approved. This approval email will complete the advising for that term unless you choose to meet with an advisor.
Academic advisors in the School of Business Administration Advising Office will review and approve all Pre-Advising Form submissions.
To see course availability, go to MyOleMiss and click on Course Schedule. Select the semester and type in the course(s) or search by department.
No. All students must register for classes through their personalized MyOleMiss portal under Course Registration after all holds are cleared, and their registration window has opened.
