Lily Van Elderen is advancing to Markel Corporate Headquarters in Richmond, Virginia upon graduation in May. With her three majors in Risk Management & Insurance, Banking & Finance, and Finance, coupled with a minor in Mandarin Chinese, she has equipped herself to be a significant contributor in finance.

She secured three internships during her college experience, led student organizations, engaged in faculty mentorship, and pursued career preparation for her job search. Her internships included WSIA – Wholesale & Specialty Insurance Association (Scottsdale, AZ, and Boston, MA), Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (Chicago, IL), and Ping An Insurance (Shenzhen, China).

Dr. Stephen Fier has guided Lily through the finance program. Dr. Fier remarked that “Lily is an extraordinary student, leader, and ambassador for the Risk Management and Insurance program. She has taken advantage of every opportunity presented to her in order to ensure professional success once she graduates. She has been an absolute pleasure to work with over the past three years.”

With the Career Preparation Office and Women in Business organization, Dr. Meg Barnes celebrated that “Lily is a dynamic woman in finance finding her personal path and network for professional success!” Lily’s next professional stop is in the position of Underwriter Trainee for the Programs & Alliances Team with Markel Corporation. Lily shared, “I am beyond grateful for the professors, mentors, and advisors that I have had throughout my college career. Their support has allowed me to grow professionally and prepared me for a successful career. I know without a doubt I would not have gotten the same experiences at any other university.”
