Dr. Stephen Fier is the holder of the Liberto-King Professorship in Insurance in the School of Business Administration at the University of Mississippi and serves as an Associate Professor of Finance. He joined the faculty in the Fall of 2011 after receiving his Ph.D. from Florida State University. Dr. Fier’s research has been published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Risk and Insurance, the North American Actuarial Journal, the Journal of Banking and Finance, Risk Management and Insurance Review, the Journal of Insurance Issues (JII), and the Journal of Insurance Regulation (JIR). He currently serves on the editorial boards for the JIR and the Journal of Financial Service Professionals and he is an active member of the Southern Risk and Insurance Association and the American Risk and Insurance Association. Dr. Fier was the recipient of the 2013 College of Business Outstanding Junior Researcher Award and the 2015 Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award at The University of Mississippi. Dr. Fier received the JII’s Best Paper Award in 2013 and 2016, the JIR’s Best Paper Award in 2013, he was a recipient of a W.R. Berkley Fellowship in 2015, and he earned his CPCU designation in 2018. He currently teaches introductory RMI classes as well as commercial property and commercial liability insurance classes and serves as a co-advisor for the Mu Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma.
