On February 24th, 2022, the School of Business hosted the first-ever BASE Sales Summit and Career Expo, a micro-targeted career fair and panel discussion aimed at helping connect students and employers that respectfully have an employment and hiring emphasis in sales. The Business Connect team partnered with leading Marketing faculty members, that teach in the growing Sales concentration, and Hughes Miller, the Director of Industry Engagement for the University of Mississippi, to host a dozen industry partners, including representatives from the financial, commercial real estate, technology, logistics and advertising industries, for the expo.
Over 65 students attended the 90-minute panel discussion that covered the variety of sales-related skillsets and responsibilities across multiple industries. Following the panel discussion, over 130 business-ready students were able to professionally connect with the partnering companies for the three-hour expo.
Students were prepared and encouraged to wear professional attire, bring multiple copies of their updated resumes and research each corresponding firm that was attending. “I was able to attend the 2022 Base Sales Summit on behalf of my company and was blown away by the strides the team at Ole Miss has made to get employers involved with upperclassmen. Everyone on staff was very welcoming and professional. One thing that impressed me about the students at Ole Miss was their communication skills and wide array of work experience while in college. It is obvious the leadership at the top is putting a heavy emphasis on helping Ole Miss student’s get in the door at companies. We will be back!” says Bracken Ray, Senior Director of Sales Development at Corpay.
Following a post-event survey sent to each participating employer, the organizing team will prepare to plan future targeted career expos that match with Sales and additional growing concentrations. Continuing with the targeted strategy, the School of Business Real Estate department is hosting “The Real Estate Internship and Career Fair on April 8, 2022.
