Annual Showcase Connects Students with Opportunity

This event provides an opportunity for students to learn about different career fields, projects and skills through the experience of their peers. It also allows students who completed internships to share their insights and challenges and encourage others to begin early if they hope to intern next summer.

Some students brought experiences from around the world. Aniyja Riddle, a junior computer science and pre-law major from Oxford, shared her experiences from an information technology internship in Japan.

Riddle’s internship gave her the chance to gain experience in her field while immersing herself in a different culture. Her internship experience also connects to her long-term career plans.

“I want to go to law school and I want to do intellectual property and fashion law,” she said.

Attendees had a chance to learn about how internship experiences can help prepare them for their own careers. Angela Hernandez, a junior majoring in business management with an emphasis in international business, is planning to pursue an internship of her own next summer.

“I came because I’m really interested in internships, and most corporations nowadays look for students with experience, so I know internships are a good opportunity for that,” said Hernandez, from Blue Mountain. “I’m really glad I came because I learned a lot. I learned about more scholarships they offered for the internships.”

Bailey Bracken, associate director of experiential education, helps coordinate internship opportunities and organizes the annual show. One of the most valuable parts of the event is hearing students discuss what they accomplished during their internships, she said.

“I think it's cool for the interns to get to table and share their experience,” she said. “So, I think it's cool to get to hear what the students are up to this summer.”
