Across Europe in 14 Days
The business trip that redefined classroom learning
OXFORD, Miss. – The Study Abroad Office at the University of Mississippi continues to expand global learning opportunities through partnerships with international program providers. This winter, a 14‑day business‑focused trip to London, Paris, and the Netherlands brought together 35 students from universities across the country, including 17 from Ole Miss. Other participants represented institutions in Alabama, Louisiana, Illinois, New York, and Colorado, creating a diverse academic cohort.
The program began in London, where students were introduced to the city through a guided walking tour. Over the next several days, they gained insight into British politics, foreign policy, and global business operations. Highlights included visits to Lloyd’s of London Insurance Market, Chelsea Football Club, and the UK Parliament. These experiences offered students a firsthand look at how major institutions operate within the United Kingdom’s economic and political landscape.
On the seventh day, the group traveled to Paris. Their itinerary featured a blend of business visits and cultural exploration. Students toured the Fragonard Perfumery, attended sessions on luxury brand marketing and international management, explored the Paris La Défense business district, and enjoyed a guided food tour showcasing French culinary traditions. The Paris portion of the trip emphasized the intersection of global commerce, branding, and cultural identity.
The final leg of the program took place in The Hague, Netherlands. Students visited the Port of Rotterdam, one of the largest and busiest ports in the world, followed by a tour of the Delft Porcelain Manufacturer. The group also visited the Anne Frank House, a powerful historical experience that added depth and reflection to the trip.
Across all three countries, the program combined academic enrichment with cultural immersion. Students engaged with international businesses, learned about regional economic systems, and experienced the history and traditions that shape each location. The trip offered a comprehensive look at global business practices while encouraging students to broaden their perspectives and deepen their understanding of the world.
