Dr. Liebenberg’s Summer in Germany

OXFORD, Miss. – Dr. Andre P. Liebenberg has been part of the University of Mississippi for 20 years and currently serves as the Robertson Chair of Insurance. This past summer, he and his family spent five weeks in Germany, where he served as the Gen Re Visiting Professor at the University of Cologne.

Gen Re, one of the world’s oldest reinsurance companies, is headquartered in the U.S. but has deep roots in Cologne. During his time there, Dr. Liebenberg taught research seminars to undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students. He also had the opportunity to connect with students, alumni, executives, and even an Ole Miss graduate who now works at Gen Re.
“Helping 16 students generate research ideas, develop testable hypotheses, and identify ways to test them was incredibly rewarding,” Dr. Liebenberg shared. “I saw so much progress during my time there. I’m currently revising a paper I’m co-authoring with three students from Spain—and my wife, who is also a professor of risk management and insurance at Ole Miss.”
The Risk Management and Insurance major in the School of Business Administration has a 100% job placement rate and over 10 scholarship opportunities. Students that major in RMI become employed at companies such as, Gallagher Insurance Group, Brown & Riding Insurance Services Inc., and Amwins.
