OXFORD, Miss. – This fall, the Sporich Family Career Services team is expanding opportunities for students to connect with industry professionals through the enhanced Business Success Certificate Program.
In today’s competitive job market, technical expertise is only part of the equation as employers increasingly value strong communication, professionalism, adaptability, and real-world readiness, areas where many graduates need additional development. To bridge this gap, students will have the chance to participate in eight in-person, hour-long modules led by distinguished alumni and industry leaders.
Each module will cover various topics and training to best prepare students for their respective careers. Topics will include: Effective Communication Skills, Enhanced Problem-Solving Techniques, and What It Takes To Reach The C-Suite. These topics were prioritized by the module leaders based on the responses of nearly twenty hiring managers throughout the Banking and Finance sector. School of Business Dean, Ken Cyree, collaborated with Ole Miss Business alumni, who had met with the hiring managers, and identified the need to provide students additional training
Curt Gabardi, President and CEO of Story Financial Partners, serves as one of the returning module leaders. “There’s really nothing more important to your individual story and future professional journey than understanding and possessing the critical life skills needed to thrive in today’s business environment and work culture. Business Success provides this unique and differentiated opportunity by connecting students with industry leaders who truly care about your readiness for Day 1,” adds Gabardi
During the Spring of 2025, a soft launch of the program included 4 modules that were completed by a group of career-focused students. “Now that I’m in the workforce and working as a Financial Representative at Northwestern Mutual, I’ve realized how much help the Business Success Program really was” says Hollis Turnage, a recent School of Business graduate who recently completed the program. “It gave me a clearer picture of what to expect entering the workforce and into those first meetings,”
Turnage adds a couple of key takeaways from completing the program. “One was the importance of building connections, not just with business professionals, but with anyone. Another big one was the mindset of outworking everyone. Getting your career off the ground takes real effort, and it’s a grind that doesn't stop. Looking back, I’m really grateful I had the chance to go through the Business Success Program. I’d definitely recommend it to any student who wants to feel more prepared and confident stepping into life after college.”
For the 2025-2026 academic year, the eight modules will kick off on September 23rd and the last module session will be held on March 3rd, 2026; followed by a Certificate ceremony. This year’s class will target juniors and senior business majors who are looking to gain a competitive edge with their prospective careers.
